Use Motion Strategically—But Subtly
Most hunters know motion helps sell a decoy spread, but overusing, or using the wrong kind of motion can flare wary ducks—especially late-season birds that have seen every spinner on the flyway.
Use natural motion like jerk cords, swimmers, or wind-activated decoys to add ripples without sudden flashes. Set up a jerk cord with multiple decoys tethered together and give it subtle pulls as ducks approach. This breaks up the “still water” look and mimics a calm group adjusting.
Place your motion decoys near the landing zone, but not in it. Ducks will key in on movement but will want a clear, calm spot to land.
