The summer months allow a gamekeeper a chance to get some larger projects done that we normally don’t attempt during the hunting season months. Enlarging a plot, widening a road, cutting dead trees, spraying weeds, liming and moving stands. This list is long. So take advantage of the opportunity and get some work done.
It’s also a great time to fish. Summertime bass fishing ranks high with me. Especially the top water bite which is on generally during the warm months. Managing ponds is a science all itself and we’ve had several good podcasts on the subject. Its impressive to hold out a fat, green largemouth from a pond you have been helping to manage. It’s rewarding. Just like growing a large buck.
So this summer do the work, spend some quality time on the water and enjoy the process. Like we say, a gamekeeper’s work is never done.
